Nominations for vacancies on the UVic Alumni Association board of directors and its committees are solicited annually from alumni. The board’s goal is to match alumni skills, interests, and expertise with its vision and mission and to ensure that its composition is representative of the general alumni population. Alumni board volunteers who serve in these leadership positions work in partnership with the UVic Alumni Relations office to provide strategic advice on alumni benefits activities and programs.

Nominations may be made by any member of the association with the consent of the nominee. Nominations must be received in writing by UVic Alumni Relations at least seven days prior to the election held at the annual general meeting, and should include the name, degree, short biography, including current profession, summary of affiliations, and areas of expertise.

Dr. Andrew Wender, continuing sessional instructor in Political Science and History, is the newest recipient of the Gilian Sherwin Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching. Wender brings intellectual “breadth, rigor and excitement” to classes on global affairs. A nominator wrote: “(Wender) is not only an excellent teacher, but an extraordinary one.” Nominators' note: The other teaching award sponsored by the alumni association – The Harry Hickman Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching – will be presented in February, 2013, with the nominating period opening this fall.

Pre-order a diploma frame before Spring Convocation! Do it before May 28 and get a free Class of 2012 t-shirt courtesy of the UVic Alumni Association. After your convocation ceremony, UVic Student Ambassadors will happily frame your diploma for you at the University Centre.

Homecoming 2012

Get set for Homecoming Weekend, September 28-29. Coinciding with UVic's 50th anniversary Community Festival, Homecoming will offer a special opportunity for alumni to connect with each other, remember their UVic days, and learn from outstanding teachers and researchers in a casual setting.
